Where you can find them:
In lakes, wetlands, rivers and streams. They’re found in various places in the Wairarapa Moana, but you will also find them across New Zealand. Some populations migrate between freshwater and the sea while others don’t.
What they look like:
A silvery-grey fish with brown mottles that commonly grows up to 12cm long.
Did you know:
You can often see them darting around the shallow areas of Lake Wairarapa.
